It's true... Cardio is actually keeping you from getting the results you want.
In order to build a tight & toned body, you need muscle. Muscle comes from strength training... NOT cardio.
Yes, when you are doing cardio, you're working the heart muscle and that's important. But you can work the heart muscle WHILE building tone with strength training.
Let's touch on a concept that will REALLY convince you...
(you don't need to know what it stands for)
EPOC essentially says your body is still burning calories AFTER a strength training session for up to 48 hours! With cardio, the calorie burn is only for the duration of the exercise. Meaning, when you stop doing cardio, you stop burning calories. When you strength train, you KEEP burning calories for days.
Lastly, we've all heard this before... Muscle burns more calories than fat. It's true! The more muscle we have, the more calories we burn.
MYTH BUSTED!!! Moving on...
Ok first of all... anything in excess makes you fat. Doesn't matter the source.
Whether we gain or lose fat is 100% dependent on the amount of food we consume compared the energy we expend. Thus, an excess of calories make you fat... NOT carbs.
Also, carbs are our primary source of energy and a crucial source to our recovery. Hence why you feel so depleted when you DO cut carbs. As a result, you're not fueling your workouts to perform your best or recover for the next workout.
So, although you're putting in the time, you're not getting the FULL benefit. I don't know about you... but if I'm putting in the time, I WANT the full benefit.
MYTH BUSTED!!! Moving on...
Again, with this approach, calories are the focus as opposed to building muscle which is what we really need to be toned.
Just like anything you want to improve on, you need intentional repetition of the skill as opposed to random attempts and just going through the motions.
Building tone is no different. You must train and build your body with repetition & progressive overload.
Which means you will also need programming with a legit strategy. Not a bunch of crazy movements where we risk injury because we have no idea what we're doing.
Plus, if we keep the body "guessing", it has no idea what we're trying to do. Why don't we tell the body EXACTLY what we want it to do?
Keep it simple. Master the basics. And exercise with intention.
